Explore More with The Texas Zoo

We are thrilled to be part of the H-E-B and H-E-B Tournament of Champions “Explore More” Program, in partnership with Discover Victoria, Texas. It’s a wonderful way for families to explore local, enjoy our culture, and create lasting memories.

Thanks to H-E-B, guests can enjoy free general admission to The Texas Zoo from 10 AM to 4 PM during the months of November and December. We’ve received many questions since the announcement, so we’ve put together this FAQ to help everyone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is The Texas Zoo located?
The Texas Zoo is located in Victoria, Texas, inside Riverside Park at 110 Memorial Drive.

Does this apply to other zoos, like the Houston or San Antonio Zoo?
No. This program includes The Texas Zoo, the Children’s Discovery Museum of the Golden Crescent, the Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum, the City by the Sea Museum, and the Matagorda County Museum. Other participating Gulf Coast attractions include the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History, the South Texas Botanical Gardens and Nature Center, the Art Museum of South Texas, and the Texas State Museum of Asian Cultures and Education Center.

Can I attend special events for free?
No. The free admission applies only to regular daily general admission from 10 AM to 4 PM. It does not include animal encounters, field trips, birthday parties, private bookings, fundraisers, or special events.

Are there any limits on visits?
There are no limits. You may visit as many times as you like throughout November and December. However, some of the other participating museums may have their own restrictions, so please check with them directly.

Can we bring food or drinks into the Zoo?
Outside food and drinks are not allowed inside the Zoo, except for bottled water and baby food or formula. Picnic tables are available outside the Zoo in Riverside Park for visitors who wish to enjoy a meal before or after their visit.

Can we visit as an unofficial group, such as a homeschool or mommy-and-me meetup?
Yes. Small groups are welcome during regular hours. For larger groups (15–20 people or more), please call ahead so we can help plan your visit safely and comfortably. If your group is larger than our regular capacity of 400 guests, we recommend scheduling an official field trip.

What is the Zoo’s maximum capacity?
Our maximum capacity is 400 patrons at a time. During busy periods, you may experience a short wait to enter. To check current attendance levels, call 361-573-7681.

Are strollers or wheelchairs available for rent?
Yes. Strollers are available for $2 per day. We also have one wheelchair available free of charge, though it cannot be reserved. You may call the gift shop in advance to check availability.

Does the Zoo close for weather?
The Zoo is open rain or shine unless weather conditions pose a safety concern for guests or staff. If a closure is necessary, updates will be shared on our website and social media pages. Please note that rain checks or refunds are not available due to weather.

Can I bring a camera?
Yes. Guests are welcome to take photos during their visit.

Can I make a donation to support the Zoo?
Yes. Free admission is made possible through the generosity of H-E-B Tournament of Champions, but the care and feeding of our animals depend on the ongoing support of our community. Donations can be made online, in the gift shop, or at the front gate. Every contribution helps us provide quality care for our animals and engaging educational experiences for our guests.

We are grateful for our community and the overwhelming support we’ve received. We hope to see you soon!
